FAQQ. HOW IS BAMBOO FIBRE MADE? A. The Bamboo is harvested and pulped. The pulp is refined through a process of hydrolysis-alkalization and multi-phase bleaching and is then processed into a fibre and then spun into thread and weaved into cloth. Q. WHAT MAKES BAMBOO FIBRE SO SPECIAL. A. Bamboo fibre is so much softer than cotton, it drapes like silk, has a much more effective moisture wicking property and is naturally anti bacterial and anti fungal, all of which helps to reduce things like body odour and skin irritation. Q. IS BAMBOO FIBRE ENVIROMENTALLY FRIENDLY? A. Bamboo plays a big part in our ecosystem. It is the fastest growing plant on the planet and produces 35% more oxygen than the same area of trees. Bamboo does not need any sprays or chemicals to grow and is ideal for protection against soil erosion. Bamboo also has the ability to grow in areas of both high and low rainfall. Q. SO HOW FAST DOES IT GROW. A. Bamboo is actually a grass and unlike wood it matures in 5 years compared to 60 years for a tree and therefore is putting oxygen back into the atmosphere within weeks of being cut. Q. DO YOU HAVE TO REPLANT AFTER CUTTING. A. No because Bamboo is self generating growing from the base shoots, so you don't have to kill it to harvest it unlike trees.Q. DOES HARVESTING BAMBOO POSE ANY THREAT TO ENDANGERED SPECIES LIKE THE PANDA. A. No because only MOSO (Phyllostachys Pubescens) species are used to produce Bamboo fibre and this comes from the eastern provinces of China on the lower slopes of hill country. Nearly all of the remaining 700-1000 wild Giant Pandas live in the high mountain areas of western China and live well above any possible harvesting areas and are vigorously protected by the Chinese government. Q. ARE YOUR PRODUCTS ALL MADE FROM 100% BAMBOO A. Wherever possible yes, but in some cases such as socks a small percentage of another material such as Lycra may need to be woven into the fabric to allow it to stretch and move with your body. If an item contains another material then the percentages are clearly marked on the label and are kept to an absolute minimum. Q. YOU SELL BAMBOO FIBRE NAPPIES BUT DOESNT EVERYONE USE DISPOSABLE NAPPIES THESE DAYS A. Disposable nappies contain a huge amount of plastics and take over one hundred years to degrade when disposed of. The cost to local councils to process the huge volume of waste nappies each year is staggering in some cases it has been reported as reaching £500,000pa and that is before you take into account the area of landfill sites it takes to bury them or the amount of greenhouse gas that incinerating them produces. Bamboo fibre nappies will wash at low temperatures, are made from a renewable natural source and when finally disposed of are fully biodegradable. The natural anti bacterial and wicking properties of Bamboo draw moisture away from baby's skin and allow it to breathe which helps to prevent nappy rash. Using Bamboo nappies is by far the best choice for the environment and your baby. Q. IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A DESIGN OR MESSAGE PUT ON TO YOUR CLOTHING A. Printing or embroidering of things like sports club or school badges or emblems or just about any design can be done at an additional cost. Obviously the price for printing would depend on the garment or item to be printed, the size and complexity of your design and the quantity you required printing.
